2008 Late Autumn Show

End of season finale

After the wettest summer on record, and on the day the clocks went back, the sun made a welcome appearance for our final show of the season, resulting in a vibrant, colourful occasion for all.

The entries to the Flower Show were as beautiful as ever, and it was especially gratifying to see some newcomers entering the various competitions.

Many thanks to all of you, and if you didn’t win top prize this time, remember that practice makes perfect. Hopefully, the appearance of some new names will encourage other members to take part in future. We all have to start somewhere …

Among many other attractions, the Floral Art Group’s colourful display of members’ work throughout the year was a highlight of the show.

At the end of a fun and frantic afternoon the Mayor, Cllr Alan Winkworth, presented the prizes, including the annual trophies and awards (see below). As Jean Steer looked on, tea-towel in hand, the Mayor realised with some trepidation what traditionally happens at the end of a mayoral reign in Epsom and Ewell. He can choose between washing or sweeping-up at next year’s shows …
