A sizzling Summer Show

‘This is not just a flower show, it’s an afternoon out for all the family,’ said Deputy Mayor Jean Steer as she presented the prizes at our Summer Show on 21 June.

And what an afternoon it was. The hall was a blaze of colour and fragrance from the magnificent exhibits of roses, sweet peas, dianthus, delphiniums and many other summer flowers, not forgetting the fruit, vegetables, cookery and handicrafts.

The Floral Art Group exhibits on the theme Sapphire Anniversary were much admired, and the children’s activity, planting herb gardens, was another hit.

We also signed up several new members, including our first from Wales. Welcome to Jane Evans. Unfortunately, there is no Road Steward for her area, but luckily she has e-mail…

Once again, huge numbers of people attended and were full of compliments for just about every aspect of the show.

Many congratulations to the worthy winners and huge thanks to everyone involved: exhibitors, kitchen team, raffle-ticket and plant sellers and the committee, especially Gordon Norris and Fred Evans, who had been preparing the whole thing for weeks.
