2010 TripsFriday 30th April (Please note this is a longer journey than usual and there will be an early start) Morning: Beth Chatto Gardens in Essex. This famous garden has everything, gravel, water and scree gardens and woodland. Light lunches available. Afternoon: The Place for Plants, East Bergholt. This garden is noted for Spring shrubs and bulbs and has an excellent nursery. Free entry for RHS members. £24 per person £20 for RHS members. Saturday 12th June (please note this is a date change) Morning: Hopleys Plants, Much Hadham, Herts. 4 acres of lawns with island beds inspired by Alan Bloom and many fine trees together with a specialist nursery. Afternoon: Benington Lordship. 7 acres of gardens surrounding a manor house include a rose garden, folly, carp pond, kitchen garden and more. £22 per person. July 15th - 18th. Gardens of Dorset & Hampshire Four days, three nights from Thursday 15 July to Sunday 18 July. Entrance to all gardens will be around £20-£22 payable with the balance. Accommodation: three nights bed, breakfast and dinner at the Best Western Hotel Royale five minutes from beach and town centre in Bournemouth. En suite rooms with tea/coffee facilities. Indoor swimming pool and leisure centre. Day 1 Thursday:- Travel from four local pick-up points. Lunch stop in Winchester with time to look around. Day 2 Friday:- Morning:

Gardens. Established in 1765 by the first
Afternoon:- Ivy Cottage. This picturesque 18th century thatched cottage is surrounded by an informal garden of almost two acres with a small stream flowing through the middle of it. There is a wide range of trees, shrubs and perennials, and a well-laid-out kitchen garden. Day 3 Saturday:- Morning: Applecourt. This features a theatrical white garden, sub-tropical borders, 70-metre hosta walk, and hemerocallis beds showcasing the latest day lilies. The woodland walk and cottage garden are in contrast to the small Japanese style garden and pond. Paeonies, roses and geraniums can be found in season. Afternoon:- Knoll Gardens. The four-acre garden at Knoll is a show garden, featuring the specialist plants available in the nursery, with the emphasis on grasses. There is a Mediterranean-style gravel garden as well as a small-scale meadow garden and most recently the Decennium border mixing grasses and perennials in a naturalistic style. Day 4 Sunday:- Return home with a visit to a garden in Hampshire (to be decided) and a stop for lunch. Please contact Brenda to book your place or if you have any queries. Optional insurance £19 per person. £30 deposit per person payable by 22 January, balance by 15 May 2010. Thursday 12th August 2010 Morning: Stansfield, Oxfordshire. An informal plantsman's garden containing over 2,000 varieties, with many alpines in sinks, herbaceous borders. scree garden and damp and shady areas. Afternoon: Kelmscott Manor. Known as once the home of William Morris, this old farmhouse has beautiful gardens with a dovecote, meadows and barns. Included is a tour of the house and tea/coffee. £28.50 per person. |
