Weekend Trip for 2012 Gardens of Hampshire, Dorset & Isle of Wight.
4 days, 3 nights from Thursday 24 May to Sunday 27 May 2012. £261 per person (plus £75 single supplement). Optional insurance £18.35 per person. £30 deposit per person payable by 31 December 2011, balance by 15 March 2012. Entrance to all gardens will be around £30 (less for NT members) payable with the balance. Accommodation: 3 nights bed, breakfast and dinner at the Hilton Hotel near Southampton. En suite rooms with tea/coffee facilities. Pool & gym.
Day 1 Thursday: Travel from 4 local pick-up points. Visit to Furzey Gardens with lunch in Lyndhurst. Garden known for its magnificent displays of azaleas and rhododendrons.
Day 2 Friday: Ferry to Isle of Wight & visits to 2 gardens Morning: Ventnor Botanic Garden. With their mild micro-climate, these gardens are able to grow sub-tropical plants from around the world as well as ever-changing herbaceous borders.
Afternoon: North Court. Special features include magnolias and camellias. Also, a stream with bog plants & primulas, a sunken rose garden and kitchen garden.
Day 3 Saturday: Visits to 2 gardens
Morning: Kingston Lacy near Wimborne Minster (National Trust). Beautiful formal gardens, also a fernery and Japanese Garden with teahouse. Option to visit house.
Afternoon: Spinners Garden, Boldre, Hants. Beautiful woodland garden overlooking a river valley. Also has a great nursery. Day 4 Sunday Return home with visit to the gardens at Tylney Hall near Basingstoke and stop for lunch.
Friday 27 April 2012.
Morning: RHS Garden Hyde Hall, near Chelmsford. This hilltop garden was created in the 1950's and is constantly evolving. In the spring there are spectacular displays of bulbs. A new lake is currently being dug and will be planted up for spring. Lunch available here in the thatched barn. (RHS members free.)
Afternoon: Spencers' Gardens in Great Yeldham Essex. A beautiful 1.5 acre walled garden, recently renovated by Tom Stuart-Smith, with magnificent wisteria; also a woodland garden bordering on the river Colne.
As so many people missed out this year, we are hoping to arrange another trip to Highgrove hopefully in June or July but they are not taking bookings for 2012 until the February. If you would like to be put on a provisional list for this trip please contact Barbara (even if you were on the list for this year but were unable to go). The price will be around £32 but please do not send any money yet. As soon as we get a definite date we will let everyone know. Priority will be given to people who were on the list in 2011 but were unable to go.

Morning:The Salutation. 3.5 acres of The Secret Gardens of Sandwich surround the Salutation, a Lutyens manor house. The ornamental gardens, which are almost surrounded by the old stone city walls, were originally designed by Lutyens & Jekyll and have been transformed over the last 4 years into one of the finest gardens in Kent.
Afternoon: Copton Ash, Faversham. A real plantsman's garden created by the owner and his mother since 1978 in a former 1.5 acre cherry orchard, it features alpines in raised beds and various umbellifers, a special interest of the owner.
